Home Depot’s warehouse stores are home improvement giants and what happens there in terms of consumer behavior is a good indication of the general trend in the market.

Home Depot shower doors and smaller bathroom necessities, can make a huge difference a consumer comfort at home. These are therefore much easier to sell in the current climate than the big-ticket items such as new kitchens, cabinets and granite countertops.

Energy-efficiency is another growth area, due to rising fuel costs. Here Home Depot and Lowes experience consumer demand for weather stripping, caulk, CFL light bulbs, air circulation and pipe insulation, as well as fireplace-related items.
